The women's team is looking to improve on their bronze medal won last year.
Catherine Ndereba, the assistant commissioner of Prisons Services in charge of sports, has exuded confidence in the service’s volleyball sides excelling at the upcoming Volleyball Club Championships set for next month.
Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) 2022 men's club championship will be played in Tunisia from 5th to 18th May while their women’s event follows immediately after from 19th May to 1st June in the same country.
Ndereba says the women’s team who are the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women’s league champions will be out to improve on the bronze medal they won at last year’s championship.
“We are giving the teams the support they need to get ready and I believe their training is going on well. We are hoping that the women’s team will continue their good performance on that stage and better last year’s performance.

Prisons women have proven to be the queens of Kenyan volleyball over time and have also dominated on the continental stage, winning the title five times and this is a record we would like to extend,” said Ndereba who was speaking at the sidelines of an event organized to award Ruth Chepngetich who has since joined the warders as the sports personality of the month of March.
Additionally, the former world marathon champion and four-time Boston Marathon winner says that the men’s team is likely to make a return to the continental event after missing last year’s championship.
“The plan is to have both teams travel to Tunisia for the championship as they have qualified. Last year, we had to field one team due to financial constraints and the chance was given to the women’s team as the national champions,” she added.
